Sod has been turned for our SAIF project

Yesterday we held a Turning of the Soil ceremony in Cairns for our Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund (SAIF) Project. The SAIF Project will be the first Indigenous supported accommodation in the Cairns region. This transitional facility will provide accommodation for eight clients with severe and profound disabilities, allowing them to either move on from the facility back into the community or into the care of existing service providers in the Cairns region.

Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten MP, Senator Jan McLucas, and ALP State Member for Cairns Rob Pyne: Standing Up For Cairns all spoke generously about the project and the land was blessed by Seith Fourmile on behalf of the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji People, and Jeanette Singleton on behalf of the Yirrganydji Gurubana People. We were also incredibly fortunate to have Aunty Bonita Mabo (widow of Eddie Mabo) attend the event and participate in the ceremony.
