A near fatal attack didn't stop Luke Morgan from getting a uni degree after Caulfield Hospital rehabilitation
A KING-HIT victim who sustained brain injuries
during an attack on the way home from his Year 12 exam celebrations
has graduated from university.
Luke Morgan was almost killed after he stopped for a late-night
burger.
As he was leaving a Traralgon McDonalds, a group of youths began
yelling at him, urging him into a fight.
It ended when the then 18-year-old was punched in the head.
As he lay on the ground, unconscious, one of the youngest
offenders, just 13, repeatedly punched him in the face.
"He's not dead, he's just sleeping," his attackers yelled, as
they ran from the approaching police sirens.
Mr Morgan spent three days in a coma.
Put simply, medical experts said his brain was "wrecked".
He found it hard to recall information. Even Googling answers to
basic questions was a challenge.
But he would not let the attack stop him from pursuing his
career. He spent eight months in Caulfield Hospital's
rehabilitation, learning to perform basic tasks in a simulated
working environment.
Gradually, he returned to work and study.
Last Wednesday, Mr Morgan, now 22, graduated from La Trobe
University with a double degree in financial planning and
international business.
Within a week of graduating, he got his first job, working for
Blazer Wealth, in financial planning.
"I just want to make the most of my life," he said.
